Detailed 6 Days Eastern lowland Gorilla Trekking & Burundi Primate Safari.
The Trip Starts from Kigali Rwanda and Ends in Burundi ; Reason is that South Kivu doesn’t have an international Airport.
Note: Apply for Burundi visa and Primate Safari Experiences will handle the Congo Tourists Visa.
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Bukavu ( southern DR Congo)
The primate Safari Experiences guide will pick you from your hotel in Kigali and Start for the great drive in the land of thousand hills passing via Nyungwe Forest national Park which is part of Kibira National Park in Burundi that you will be exploring on your chimpanzee experience in Burundi.
You will cross to DR Congo via Cyangugu border en-route Bukavu Congo and on your way you will enjoy the scenic views of the rolling hills, vegetation of Rwanda. You can opt to visit the various Nyanza Palace , Genocides and others along the route. Dinner and Overnight at Orchids Lodge/ Hotel Begonias.
Day 2: Lowland Gorilla Trekking at Kahuzi Biega National Park
After morning break fast , you will jump into the safari jeep and take one hour drive to the park headquarter for briefing about the lowland gorilla trekking rules & regulations .
Briefing about the gorilla trekking rules and regulations to be observed while trekking the gorillas in the wilderness of Kahuzi Biega National Park that are much bigger in size with vast family groups as compared to the endangered species of Mountain gorillas which are found in Volcanoes National Park, Virunga National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Eastern Lowland Gorilla trekking in the Magical Jungles of Congo will last for 4-7 hours depending on the last location where they spent their night. There is an option of Gorilla Habituation experience which rewards you staying with the gorillas for more time compared to the one hour gorilla trekking . After you will transfer back to Bukavu for Dinner and overnight stay as above.
Day 3: Bukavu to Bujumbura via Rwanda
After Morning breakfast, you will be picked up the safari guide and you start on the drive to Burundi ( where your expected to have your lunch in the capital of Burundi) . After lunch you will go for city tour and visit the cultural , snake museum, the city hall, Lake Tanganyika which is the most prominent attraction in the area, the Islam Culture Center. Dinner and overnight stay at Club Lake Tanganyika Hotel.
Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking in Kibira National Park
Visit the Kibira Forest National Park and do chimpanzee tracking. It is located at the peak of tip of the Zaire Nile covering an expanse of 40 000 hectares of conserved woodland and is the biggest unspoiled natural locality within Burundi. The park has wealthy abundance of wildlife like chimpanzees, white & black colobus, baboons plus many others.
There are close to 98 mammal species, 644 plant plus flower species and over 200 bird species found in here. If time allows, visit the Memorial of the Explorers which is a massive rock in the outskirts of Bujumbura that commemorates the conference of Hanington with John Speke in 1871 who both where explorers. You will have lunch and proceed back to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay as above.
Day 5: Bujumbura city tour and visit Gitenga.
You will enjoy city tour and visit the cultural performance center to learn more about the Burundian Cultures and practices, Afternoon relax at the beach of Lake Tanganyika. Dinner and overnight as above.
Day 6:Transfer to the airport for flight
You will have breakfast, you will be driven back to Bujumbura for your flight back home.
