Safari Overview

This 16 days Best of East Africa Combined Safari starts in Kigali International Airport and Ends in Zanzibar International Airport. Meet eye to eye with the amazing gorillas and chimpanzees of Uganda in their natural habitat, one of Africa’s major highlights. This close encounter with these amazing apes is simply breathtaking.  Also get a close encounter with other diverse African wildlife with the Big 5 in large crowds coupled with a chance to watch the great beast migration in Serengeti or Masai Mara, beautiful landscapes, breath taking beaches of Zanzibar and endless amazing culture and if you are a keen Birder, this is the place to be!

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive, meet and greet – hotel transfer from Kigali Airport-Rwanda

Meet and greet at Kigali International Airport where your RwandaUganda Safari starts by our representative who will warmly welcome you and facilitate seamless arrival formalities.  Your will then be transferred to your hotel where you will be briefed about your adventure safari.

Depending on the time of arrival you are advised to have money Changed on this day and time allowing you may go for city tour with the help of our driver/guide, visit the shopping Malls around town and craft villages to get items which you may need while in upcountry . Drive through Nyamirambo Township – this is the oldest town in Kigali which has a unique stretched neighbourhood found in south western corner of Kigali that envelopes diverse behaviour with dominancy of Arab – like Culture.

It is a huge stretched corner which is sometimes referred to as a gangsters’ Paradise! Characterized with Many Muslim residents, Mosques and unlike other places that close by 8pm with everyone inside their homes, Nyamirambo hustles and rocks late into the nights!

Day 2: Travel to Akagera National Park, Eastern Rwanda on second day

Have an early morning breakfast, after, vacate your accommodation in Kigali for a 2-3 hours’ drive to Akagera National Park, Eastern Rwanda-the land of a thousand hills. Akagera is one of the extensive savannah parks in East Africa and the only one in Rwanda, occupying up to 1122sq.kms of land. The park protects diversity of species but essentially, all the big five game-leopards, lions, buffaloes, elephants, rhinos; the distinct roan antelopes, zebras, bush bucks, birds, Masai giraffes, water bucks etc.

Check into the accommodation upon your arrival, relax and set off for mid-morning game drive to look out for Akagera big five game. Drive back after spending 2-3 hours on a game viewing and settle for lunch, later in the afternoon, undertake a boat cruise on Lake Ihema. Rest in the evening, enjoy the refreshing drinks, and retire for the night at your accommodation or camp.

Day 3: Depart from Akagera National Park for Nyungwe N/P-Rwanda

After morning Breakfast, you will be picked up by your trip guide for transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Have an en-route stop visit at Huye for lunch breakfast and proceed, arrive early in the Southern section of Rwanda to check at the accommodation in Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking-Nyungwe Forest – Afternoon Optional Canopy walk at an Extra fee

Begin your day 4 of the 8 days Rwanda safari with a heavy breakfast, after, visit Uwinka reception to meet the park official for briefing about the chimpanzee trekking rules. Set off to search for a habituated chimp community in Nyungwe Forest via Uwinka area and this will be for 2-4 hours and it includes one hour of close encounter.

Retreat from Nyungwe Forest National Park-Rwanda, enjoy a delicious lunch and  either relax at the lodge or leave the accommodation for an afternoon optional canopy walk 2 hours at an extra fee of $60 per person. This is a rewarding experience offering excellent views of primates, birds.

Day 5: Morning Tea Plantation Experience – Afternoon Banana Beer Experience with the Red Rocks – Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

In the Morning, we will have breakfast and then tea Plantation Experience – The Rich volcanic soil gently sloping is the main secret behind the perfect cup of tea that starts right here in Gisakura Tea Estate. Hugging the rippling hills at the western fringes of Nyungwe National Park, This estate is among the most famous of Rwanda’s tea plantations and is certainly the most spectacular.

Immediately, transfer to Musanze to the village where you will learn how to grow bananas, their species, ripening process, demonstration of making beer. The banana beer is manufactured from fermentation of mashed bananas and roasted Sorghum flour is added as a source of wild yeast. You will visit different families for historical background of homemade beer and further demonstration. You will end the tour by visiting a local pub where banana beer and other local homemade beer are being served and enjoy interacting with local people.

 Day 6: Gorilla Tracking

After an early breakfast depart to the starting point for briefing about your gorilla Tracking adventure after which you will be led by experienced gorilla researchers on the slopes of the volcanoes. You will start from the site where the gorillas were encountered the day before and from here the gorilla Tracking begins. Although the hike can be physically demanding, the anticipation of the exciting experience ahead is amazing, and the beauty of the gorilla forest and its inhabitants are fascinating. One of Africa’s major highlights is when you encounter these gentle apes. It is a humbling experience to stand just meters from man’s distant cousins as they eat rest, play and bond with their young ones. Follow the mountain gorillas as they range freely in the impenetrable forest, and discover their gorgeous natural habitual and the many species they share it with. You will move along the Gorillas for over four hours with the before finally sloping down back to your lodge. If your trek was relatively short, you may have a guided nature walk around the lodge and the surrounding communities in the evening. Return to the lodge where you will enjoy dinner with your fellow travellers before getting a good night’s rest for tomorrow’s safari adventure.

Day 7: Early Morning Transfer to Entebbe, make a stopover at The Equator – enjoy your shopping in the Craft villages for souvenirs

After a Hot and Delicious breakfast, transfer to Entebbe with a stopover at the Equator for water experience, here you will too have an opportunity to stand in 2 hemispheres at the same time. Take some photos and time allowing you can make another stopover at the Mpigi Royal Drum Makers where you will be able to watch the ceremonial drums being crafted using methods passed down through the generations arriving in the early afternoon.

Upon Arrival, You will have lunch at a selected restaurant in the city – Visit the souvenir Craft Villages and shop as many African designs to take home with you as gifts for your loved ones – You will have Dinner at a selected Java House in Entebbe with an office representative who will welcome you back from your Unforgettable Bush Journey, here you will share your experience and your beautiful remarks with us!

Day8: Domestic Flight Transfer to Maasai Mara – Meet and Greet with our Representative

Meet and greet with our company representative in Masai Mara National Reserve air strip in the afternoon – Masai Mara holds on as one of the few places left on earth where wildlife still lives comparatively undisturbed, in the numbers that once roamed the plains and forests of Africa. As the northern tip of the vast Serengeti ecosystem, the Mara hosts the spectacular seasonal migration of many thousands of Wildebeest, Zebras and attendant predators. Arrive in time for lunch then have an afternoon game drive.

Day9: Explore the Magical Masai Mara Reserve on the Guided Game Drives

After a hot and delicious breakfast we explore the reserve on a full guided day game drive, with packed lunch provided. The reserve is well known for its black-maned lion, as well as its abundant resident wildlife and its one of the few places where it’s possible to see the big five during a morning’s game drive. Many of the cheetahs are so tame they seek shelter from the hot sun under one’s vehicle and several even climb onto the roof to get better view of prospective prey. For the bird enthusiast, almost 500 species have been recorded: among these 16 species of eagle, plus many hawks and falcons, 6 species of vultures, 8 species of storks 4 of bustard (including the Kori bustard, the world’s heaviest flying bird), and 9 species of sun birds.

Day10: Morning Leisure Private Road Transfer to Serengeti National Park – A home of the Great Beast Migration

On this day, you will be transferring to Serengeti National park through Isebania border after an early morning Breakfast. This transfer takes almost the whole day but during a great part of the journey (in the morning in Masai Mara and in the Afternoon in the Serengeti) you will be doing game drive as well. Afternoon game drive en-route to tented camp.

Day11: Explore Serengeti National Park

The famous Serengeti National Park, home of the Great Migration. The game drive is spectacular as you drive up the crater highlands, stopping at the rim. Continuing on, spreading out is the vast Serengeti. Serengeti means “endless plains” in Kiswahili and this 6,900 sq. mile (18,000 sq. km) park is inhabited by more than 2 million large animals including more than a million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of plains zebras, and Thomson’s gazelles, large predators including lions, cheetahs, and hyenas. Many smaller animals like rock hyrax or monkeys also inhabit the area along with nearly 500 species of birds. On the second day, after breakfast, full day in Serengeti National Park (morning and afternoon game drives).

Day13: Have a Morning Game Drive and Afternoon Flight Transfer to Zanzibar – Enjoy the Best of the sun, sand and waters

Depart after breakfast and drive across the Great Rift Valley to for a half day game drive. It is very famous for its stunning bird variety. The park is also home to a large number of buffalos, giraffes, elephants, impalas and a Hippo lake, where large numbers of hippos usually gather… In the afternoon, you will have a flight to Zanzibar around 4pm for three days of relaxation.

Day14: spend your Day at The Beaches

You can take some rest and enjoy this paradise made of beautiful beaches of white sand and turquoise water of the Indian Ocean. There is a possibility of extra activities at an extra fee such as a Day Tour in Stone Town (includes Old Town guided tour, Spice Tour and Prison Island – lunch not included), Half Day Tour (includes Old Town guided tour or Spice Tour or Prison Island). Another suggestion is Jozani Forest tour (lunch not included). Every trip is $25 – 50$ per person

You can spend the last hours of your journey to perfectly end your African Safari by a walk exploring the sands, sampling the different foods, fruits, as well as visit the souvenir shops and get items you wish to gift your loved ones at home. After you will have a transfer to Zanzibar airport for international flight.
