Lwiro Primate Rehabilitation centre

The Centre de Rehabilitation des Primates de Lwiro (CRPL) was established in 2002 when it became apparent that the illegal trade in wildlife for bush meat was a problem in the area and that the animals’ confiscated as a result required rehabilitation and long term care.

The CRPL houses 55 chimpanzees and 75 monkeys, representing more than ten different species.  With established education and awareness programs, and as the only wildlife sanctuary in the region.  The Centre is situated just outside the boundary of the UNESCO listed Kahuzi-Biega national park, check out for the chimpanzee feeding safari with us.
